English B1 Level Certificate
Skills at B1 English
B1 is the intermediate level in language learning. By this point, the person should have the necessary fluency to communicate with native English speakers on familiar topics. A B1 level in English, therefore, corresponds to a more independent user of the language. The person is expected to have a wider range of vocabulary and use the most important grammatical structures correctly.
Students require about 400 hours of instruction to reach B1 from a complete beginner level.
According to the CEFR guidelines, a language learner at the B1 level:
- Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
- Can deal with most situations likely to arise while traveling in an area where the language is spoken.
- Can produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest.
