B1 is the intermediate level in language learning. By this point, the person should have the necessary fluency to communicate with native English speakers on familiar topics. A B1 level in English, therefore, corresponds to a more independent user of the language. The person is expected to have a wider range of vocabulary and use the most important grammatical structures correctly.
Students require about 400 hours of instruction to reach B1 from a complete beginner level.
